It was a milestone for meat in Wairarapa yesterday with the arrival of top-of-the-range Hereford Prime beef in Masterton.
Anderson Meats at Kuripuni launched the brand in the district and
Hereford Prime, a stand- alone business owned by the New Zealand
Hereford Association, is now seeking to get the prime cuts into
restaurants in Wairarapa.
Among those at the launch yesterday was Mark McKenzie, of Maungahina
Stud, who has been pivotal in getting Hereford Prime into Masterton.
New Zealand Hereford Association general-manager Natalie Campbell
said Hereford Prime is grass fed and hormone free and is unrivalled for
consistency and quality.
"We have three processors working for us around New Zealand - all
family owned and operated - that allows us to excel at quality control
and maintain open relationships.."
Ms Campbell said Hereford Prime has strict carcass specifications
and in May won the Best of British class in the Steak of Origin
competition.
"In the history of Steak of Origin competition if Hereford Prime
hasn't won a class, it has been placed in the finals every year.
"This year the Best of British class attracted 147 entries."
